Huge thanks to Team TPP, who scaled the 3 highest mountains in the UK, all in 24 hours to raise money in aid of the Talbot Butler EAB!
A team of 8 friends and NHS colleagues chose the mighty mountain challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon as their 2018 team goal.
On 19th June, Team TPP walked 26 miles, ascended 3,064 metres and drove 462 miles to complete this challenge in 24 hours!
In the process they encountered all manner of weather conditions, including mist, icy rain and gale-force winds on Scafell Pike.
Jamie John said, “by the time we reached Snowdon the conditions had greatly improved and it was nice to finish in the sunshine”.
The team were greatly inspired by people who kept on donating as they exceeded every fundraising target they kept setting.
Starting with the aim of £1,000 they extended this to £2,500 and then £3,500 before finally raising more than £6,000!!
Thank you so much to Jamie and all the members of the team for raising this massive amount towards the EAB appeal!
You have made a huge impact!!
Here’s a rundown and thank you written by team member Ed Rogers
to those who kindly sponsored them:
I just wanted to drop you through a note, to thank you for your exceptional kindness in sponsoring me and my great group of friends who completed our 3 Peaks challenge…
While you were basking in our glorious summer weather last week, our challenge started in Glen Nevis, under heavy clouds and rain, rain that didn’t stop for the entirety of our climb up and down Ben Nevis, finishing around 11pm and still in good spirits we headed off to Scarfell.
We were driven by our superb driver Ceri, who had to deal with really horrible driving conditions, heavy rain, high winds and poor visibility along with large pools on the road in many places during the six-hour journey.
With all of us getting some broken sleep we arrived at Scarfell at 5am, to find it covered in a layer of very thick cloud, with visibility very poor due to this low cloud/ mist and again heavy rain we headed off towards the summit of Scarfell.
The heavy rain gave way to driving rain and high winds, the further we headed up.
I think we would all admit that this was the hardest of the three, due to the exceptionally tough conditions throughout the whole climb.
With Scarfell summitted and now well into Wednesday morning we headed off to Snowdon and finally some better weather, it was such a joy to finally have the good weather with us.
The PYG trail was the preferred and shortest route, a route that offered the most stunning views of our trip (mainly because we could see further than on the previous climbs) and some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.
With the whole team summiting at various times through the afternoon and Steve and Darin completing the round trip in just over 2 hours, it was a fantastic way to finishing this most difficult of challenges.
Our whole team was blown away with the kindness and generosity of people sponsoring us, it made every step worthwhile.
We have raised over gbp 5000 and with gift aid this is going to get us close to 6k.
So once again thank you for your amazing support
Many thanks
Ed
