Tax efficient giving

Find out how you can maximise the impact of your donation

GiftAid

We believe that your generosity should go as far as possible. Tax efficient giving is a simple way for you to maximize the value of your donation, helping us deliver more support to those in need without any extra cost to you.

How Does It Work?

If you are a UK taxpayer, when you donate to our charity, you can enable Gift Aid, allowing us to claim back 25% of your donation from HM Revenue & Customs at no extra cost. For example, a £100 donation is boosted to £125, increasing the impact of your gift.

If you’re a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim additional tax relief on the gross donation—so for a £100 donation boosted to £125, you could reclaim an extra £25 on your Self-Assessment, effectively reducing your net cost to £75.

Benefits for you and our charity:

  • Increased Impact: Every pound you give goes further—your donation is enhanced by 25%, helping us achieve more with the funds received.
  • No Extra Cost: Gift Aid is a tax relief we reclaim on your behalf, at no extra cost to you.
  • Simple and Secure: Making your donation tax efficient is quick and easy. Just tick the Gift Aid box when donating online or complete a Gift Aid declaration form for offline donations.
  • Supporting our mission: Additional funds enable us to expand our programmes, improve patient care, and support projects that make a real difference.

Who Can Gift Aid?

To be eligible for Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer who has paid sufficient Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax to cover the amount reclaimed. If you’re unsure, please check with HMRC or consult your tax advisor.

If you pay tax at the higher rate, you may be able to claim additional tax relief on your Self-Assessment tax return. This means that while the charity benefits from an extra 25% on your donation through Gift Aid, you can reclaim the difference between the higher rate and the basic rate of tax, making your effective contribution even lower.

Gifts to charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax. If you leave at least 10% of your estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate may reduce from 40% to 36%, potentially benefiting your loved ones too.

You can donate land, property, or shares to charity without paying tax on them. Depending on the type of gift and your eligibility, you may also receive relief on income tax, capital gains tax, or inheritance tax. See our non-cash donation page [link] for more information
