Sensory Equipment Bringing Magic to the Forest Centre

We are so pleased to share this wonderful video with you demonstrating the impact the sensory magic carpet is having for staff and their patients at the Forest Centre, St Mary's Hospital in Kettering.

Seeing the patients get involved and enjoy the activities really warms the heart and the benefits the equipment enables are many and varied.

The Forest Centre (under Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) provides a safe and caring environment for older people needing acute inpatient treatment.

The centre supports older people needing an inpatient setting for a period of assessment and treatment with mental health problems and dementia, providing medical treatment, therapy, nursing and holistic treatment.

Staff work to minimise the problems caused by impairment and disability, helping to empower older people and allowing them to lead a fulfilling life.

The magic carpet actively engages patients in something that makes them smile and laugh as well as promotes and enhances socialisation.

It maintains as well as enhances their cognitive and functional abilities providing fun and informative activities that really stimulate the mind and the body.

A big thanks to Specialist Occupational Therapist, Astrid Cooper, the Forest Centre team and Brett Dodds for putting this fantastic video together for us to share with you.

A huge thanks to everyone who helped to raise funds enabling Northamptonshire Health Charity to support the purchase of this equipment - to all the Forest Centre staff and individuals and to our local Northampton branch of Coventry Building Society and the Rotary Club of Kettering Huxloe for their generous contributions.
