We send a massive thank you to Becci Osborne for raising £1,900 in aid of the Talbot Butler EAB by trekking 52 miles through the Sahara Desert.
Thankfully Becci Osborne didn’t encounter any snakes while trekking across the Sahara Desert earlier this month but she did have to face one of her biggest fears – scorpions!
Becci decided to walk the two marathons through the famous desert to raise money in aid of the Talbot Butler Ward EAB.
She did this in memory of her friend Michelle Downes.
Becci has commented that “..the way Talbot Butler staff treated Michelle and her family when life really was at the toughest for them all, well I just couldn’t do nothing.
The staff on the ward are literally angels from heaven and deserve some recognition for doing probably one of the toughest jobs I can imagine..”
Michelle provided Becci’s inspiration throughout the entire emotional trip, which saw her walking the 52 miles through the stunning desert landscape in temperatures reaching between 35-40 degrees.
Adding further emotion was the fact the challenge began exactly a year to the day of Michelle’s passing.
Becci said, “What she and other cancer patients go through every day with very little moaning is incredible, if they can do that then two walks is literally a walk in the park”.
Three blisters and one very twisted ankle later, she explained how this was the most gruelling thing she’s ever done but she loved it.
It is one incredibly tough challenge and an incredible achievement to have completed it.
Thank you so much Becci, for putting yourself through this to raise money for the EAB!!
