This KGH staff-led initiative was created in response to a desire to establish a permanent space for reflection and remembrance. The new Memory Tree sculpture holds engraved leaves in memory as lasting tributes to patients, colleagues and the wider hospital community.
The Memory Tree has been placed in the hospital’s atrium space where colleagues, visitors and bereaved families can pause to reflect and remember loved ones.
The first leaves produced have been dedicated to colleagues who have died in service, recognising the contribution they made through their dedication, compassion and professionalism in caring for others.
Members of the public can also purchase leaves in remembrance, by visiting nhcharity.co.uk/memorytree, giving families and supporters the opportunity to remember loved ones
Each leaf purchased helps support projects such as this, to enhance patient care, staff wellbeing, research and hospital environments across University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

The Memory Tree was unveiled on Wednesday August 5th. Guests at the launch were supported by the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire volunteer team’s Brew Buddies initiative, which provided refreshments for attendees. Northamptonshire Health Charity was also grateful to receive a generous donation of cakes from long-standing supporters Emmi Desserts.
Plans are now underway to create a similar Memory Tree at Northampton General Hospital, giving more opportunities to create lasting tributes in memory of staff and patients.
