[caption id="attachment_3717" align="aligncenter" width="740"] Patrick came in with wife, Evelyn to see the Sara Stedy & thank the staff in the Stroke Unit[/caption] We are very grateful to Patrick Byrd who made a generous donation of £680 to the Northamptonshire Health Charity earlier this year so the Stroke Unit could purchase a Sara Stedy for their patients to use.
Patrick’s lovely wife, Evelyn suffered a severe stroke last August while they were in Cornwall attending the funeral of the son of a friend.
Evelyn was rushed to hospital in Truro where she received the drugs she needed in the third fastest time!
While in this hospital there was a Sara Stedy rota stand in use and the huge benefit this had for patients was very clear.
As this equipment wasn’t available on the ward when Evelyn returned to continue her recovery at Northampton General Hospital, following her discharge Patrick got in touch because he wanted to be able to donate one for others to benefit from.
To aid recovery, it is really important to encourage patients to get mobile where they can, following a stroke.
The Sara Stedy provides a crucial level of support for this purpose.
Patients are able to walk further with the peace of mind that should they need to, they have the ability to stop and rest before continuing.
It allows them to move easily and independently from a standing position to a seated position, thus reduces the risk of falling.
Using a Sara Stedy enhances a patient’s activity level allowing them to take an active role in their recovery while also improving their circulation, breathing, digestion and muscle tone.
Patrick came in with Evelyn to give their personal thanks to staff in the Stroke Unit for the dedicated care Evelyn received at Northampton General Hospital throughout her recovery.
“The Sara Stedy provides our stroke patients with an alternative device to get out of bed,” says Eleanor Ward Sister, Vicki Moore, “The benefit with this equipment is that it has the ability to allow the patients to sit when practicing their standing and transfers post-stroke.
It offers them the reassurance that they are safe when first starting to transfer out of bed.” Thank you so much, Patrick for helping to enhance patient care at NGH.
