Critical Care Heroes raise more than £5,000 by hiking Snowdon

Back at the beginning of October last year, 18 members of staff from the Critical Care Unit at Northampton General Hospital took on the mighty and marvellous Mount Snowdon to raise funds to enhance patient care and support staff wellbeing.

The team did not have it easy, either.

While they are used to working through the challenges we have faced throughout the COVID19 pandemic, while climbing Snowdon they had to battle through howling 50mph icy winds as well as continuous torrential rain and hail!

These were the worst conditions could have possibly been so early in October but they soldiered on!

But we needed this so much," said Amanda Garner who organised the fundraising challenge, "I am so sincerely proud of our team, and what we all achieved on that mountain has created memories for life!" The team raised a whopping £5,133 for the unit at NGH, which will be used to fund initiatives that enhance the care for patients being rehabilitated and who often spend a long time being cared for on the unit.

Some of the funds will also go towards staff wellbeing projects to support the hardworking team.

The Northamptonshire Health Charity team would like to send each and every one of the staff who took on this challenge last year, the biggest warmest thank you for raising such an astronomical amount!

We look forward to sharing further news on exactly how the funds raised have helped to make a difference.
