Aunty and Niece duo raise £1,627 for Lilford ward at KGH

Back at the beginning of October, Stacey Wedge completed the London Marathon raising money for Northamptonshire Health Charity in memory of her dad, David.

This was followed shortly by niece, Sofia who not only cut her hair, donating it to a charity who make wigs for children receiving chemotherapy, but she also raised funds for Lilford Ward at Kettering General Hospital who cared for David.

We had the pleasure along with two members of staff from Lilford, in welcoming both Stacey and Sophia to say thank you and to present Sofia with her own medal and certificate to share with schoolfriends and the rest of the family.

The family’s connection to KGH is a strong one as Stacey’s mum/Sophia’s nanny worked at the hospital for a number of years before David was looked after by Lilford.

Together, Stacey and Sophia raised £1,627.50 which is still rising, with plans to invest this amazing fundraising in new, small fridges for the personal use of patients in their room.

An inspirational family, thank you from us all for your support and fundraising that will make such a difference to others!

The idea of investing in some new fridges to benefit patients really resonated with Stacey as her Dad always loved an iced coffee, “He would totally approve,” she said.

The amazing Aunty and Niece team are already thinking up things to do next and with little Sophia a fantastic baker – watch this space in 2022!
