Adversity into Acts of Kindness

In 2015 Northamptonshire man, Graeme Scott and his family found themselves amidst the chaos of a terrorist attack while on holiday in Tunisia.

This harrowing experience left Graeme grappling with PTSD, a battle he courageously faced with counselling.

As part of his journey to recovery, Graeme was encouraged to follow his passion for comedy, finding solace and distraction in laughter.

Attending numerous comedy gigs, he not only found joy but also forged meaningful connections with comedians, becoming a cherished member of the comedy community.

Unfortunately, Graeme’s resilience was put to the test once again when he was diagnosed with cancer.

of treatment at Kettering General Hospital’s Centenary Wing, Graeme found the incredible support from compassionate medical staff who became like family.

Reflecting on his journey, Graeme expressed gratitude for the camaraderie and care he received during his hospital stay.

“I have met some fantastic people here.

And they all know me now and call me by my first name,” he remarked.

“the care that I have received has been fantastic”.

Despite setbacks, Graeme’s positivity shines through as he turns adversity into acts of kindness.

As a way of giving back he worked with Northampton Town Football Club to organise an auction of sports memorabilia donated by the football club.

Through this, Graeme raised an impressive £1045 for the Northamptonshire Health Charity to help give back to the hospital that supported him.

Graeme’s ongoing treatment serves as a reminder of his strength and determination.

“I have never been in hospital in my life, it was very hard.

But this was just my way of giving something back”.

Sadly, Graeme’s treatment has meant he’s been unable to attend as many comedy gigs as before but never one to be deterred, he is now organising another fundraising event for Northamptonshire Health Charity.

“This blip in my life has been hard as I haven’t been able to get out to see comedy as much.

But what it has given me is time to figure out how I can give back”.

He is now organising a comedy night at the Rushden Transport Museum and Railway which is set to be attended by some fantastic comedians who are all giving up their time for free to support.

“For me to get the support from the comedy community has been incredible.” Tickets go on sale in May.

The event which is to be held on Sunday 22nd September, promises to be an evening of laughter and raising money for a good cause.

There are set to be some celebrity guests and charity auction.

Not to be missed!

Some of the names already confirmed are Terry Alderton Ninia Benjamin, Mark Row, Stephen Owen & Paul Revill Hosting.

Tickets for the upcoming comedy night, scheduled for May, are eagerly awaited by supporters and comedy enthusiasts alike.

So keep an eye out!

As Graeme’s journey continues, his resilience and generosity is inspiring to all of us here at Northamptonshire Health Charity and we look forward to supporting him with his event and thank him for his kindness.
