Ultra Marathon runner Gareth raises over £2,000 for Gosset ward

Huge thanks to Gareth Bartley who trekked 42 miles through the Brecon Beacons in December to raise money in aid of Gosset ward [caption id="attachment_2588" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] “a rough day in the mountains beats a day in the office!” Gareth during the Ultra Marathon[/caption] Gareth undertook a mighty challenge on 1st December 2018.

He took part in a gruelling Ultra Marathon running over 40miles through the Brecon Beacons, taking in numerous peaks including the highest, Pen-Y-Fan with a total ascent of 2700m (twice the height of Ben Nevis!).

The weather was far from ideal with 40mph+ gusts up on the ridges and persistent rain for the most of the first six or seven hours.

This meant the visibility on the peaks was pretty poor but having said all this it took Gareth just 10 hours 19 minutes to complete the run!

Gareth added how, “a rough day in the mountains beats a day in the office!” Gareth’s son Ranulph was born in December 2017 and spent 10 days on Gosset ward.

To celebrate his first birthday Gareth came in with his wife Fran to present the heard-earned £2,014.50 sponsorship funds he raised to the ward team.

The money is going towards a new expressing room on the ward.

Somewhere comfortable for mums to express milk for their new-borns while they are being cared for on the ward.
