Nationwide volunteers work their magic at The Squirrels

After not being allowed to volunteer last year due to the COVID19 pandemic, Chris Grant and his team from Nationwide in Northampton were really eager to get back to The Squirrels to help out in any way they could.

Chris and the team volunteered at The Squirrels short break centre in Rushden back in 2018 and then again the following year.

Being able to make a big difference to the environment for the young people staying at the centre means a lot to them and Northamptonshire Health Charity are really grateful to each of them for their wonderful continued support with this type of project.

The Squirrels is a six-bed bungalow in Rushden and the number one priority is putting children first; the young people who use the home have very complex needs and sometimes life limiting disabilities.

Getting out and about and doing nice things puts a smile on their faces and lets them more importantly always be a child first.

Being able to do this in a tidy well-looked after garden area is crucial!

Manager at The Squirrels, Christie Ireson said, "Chris and the team from nationwide have been volunteering their time at the squirrels over a number of years, they are always willing to get involved in any tasks asked of them and work extremely hard.

This year they helped support us to tidy the garden up for the young people including painting, pressure washing and removing ivy and weeds.

Huge thank you from all the staff and the young people at the squirrels".
