Our free will writing service to help remove the barriers faced by thousands locally

According to research from the Money and Pensions Service, more than half of UK adults do not currently have a will in place, despite the importance of making wishes clear for loved ones. Therefore, we are pleased to share that we have launched our free will writing service in partnership with trusted local solicitors, helping people across Northamptonshire plan for the future with confidence and peace of mind as well as raise funds to enhance our local NHS.

We have launched our free will writing service in partnership with trusted local solicitors, helping people across Northamptonshire plan for the future with confidence and peace of mind as well as raise funds to enhance our local NHS.

The initiative has been launched to help remove some of the barriers people can face when thinking about writing or updating a will, while also encouraging supporters to consider leaving a future gift to Northamptonshire Health Charity after taking care of their loved ones.

Research from the Money and Pensions Service shows that more than half of UK adults do not currently have a will in place, despite the importance of making wishes clear for loved ones.

Available to anyone aged 18 or over, the service offers the opportunity to write a simple or mirror will free of charge through local legal partners, DFA Law and Tollers. Appointments are available in person, over the phone or via video call, making the process as accessible and flexible as possible.

Gifts left in wills help us fund enhancements above and beyond NHS provision across Kettering General Hospital, Northampton General Hospital, and Northamptonshire NHS Foundation Trust services.

We have supported patients across the county by funding a free café for patients receiving treatment for cancer, as well as state-of-the-art equipment making diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer more effective with fewer side effects. They have also funded calming sensory spaces and enhanced hospital environments, making stays in hospital more comfortable for patients and provide wellbeing resources for staff and families.

Across Northamptonshire, donations have helped create more positive experiences for patients receiving treatment, attending appointments, or staying in hospital.

Lucy Lowthian, Legacy and in memory lead at Northamptonshire Health Charity, said:

Writing a will is one of the most important ways people can protect their loved ones and make their wishes clear for the future. We know it can sometimes feel like something people put off, so we wanted to make the process as simple and accessible as possible. There is absolutely no obligation to leave a gift to Northamptonshire Health Charity, but we are incredibly grateful to those who choose to support local NHS hospitals and healthcare services in this meaningful way. Gifts in wills can help make a lasting difference for future generations across Northamptonshire.

The free will-writing service is available now. For more complex wills, any potential additional costs will always be discussed in advance directly with the solicitor.
