Simon’s daughter Hannah was a patient on Disney while undergoing treatment for cancer, so the ward became like a second home to them.

Given the incredible dedication and care Hannah and her family received during this tough time, Simon wanted to say thanks by running a marathon for Hannah, and raising money for the charity.

As the Play Team based on the children’s wards provided such a huge variety of amazing distraction techniques, particularly during the long boring hours of chemotherapy, Hannah wished for the money raised to be split between this team and the wonderful staff on Disney.

After months of training – and well and truly smashing through the £1,000 fundraising target he initially set – Simon completed the Brighton Marathon in April, having raised an incredible £4,415!!

Simon and Hannah came in with wife/mum Karen, to present this amazing donation to the staff.

It was also a chance for them to catch up once again with Consultant Paediatrician Dr Bindu, Senior Staff Nurse Helen Carroll and Play Specialist Nicola Hughes – all who formed an integral part of Hannah’s treatment journey.

With a donation of over £2,200 each, this will go a long way in making a huge difference to patients on the ward.

Discussions are under way as to what each area might purchase.

One particular thing the Play Team are looking at are some multi-sensory items and activities they can use, and there are a few different projects Disney are looking at.

Our dear thanks to Simon, Karen and Hannah for this incredible support!

And thank you to everyone who kindly made a donation!
