Members of our Northampton Half Marathon charity team for 2021 – before the race
Our relay team running for Urology
It was all systems go for events in September and exactly one week after our first charity skydive day we had 16 wonderful people (including 9 staff from NGH) take part in the 2021 Northampton Half Marathon on Sunday 26th September, all raising money for wards and departments at Northampton General Hospital.
You certainly couldn’t miss us all in our very shiny new and very bright orange charity running shirts.
Don’t they look absolutely FAB!?
Training hard through some very hot summer days – as well as the very wet ones – was not easy in any way, shape or form and even the day itself turned out to be a little on the tropical side.
A big well done to everyone who completed the tough course and earned their medals and finisher’s t-shirts.

Support for the Urology department
A huge thank you to Karen Spellman, Director of Strategy and Partnerships, Jo Fawcus, Chief Operating Office and Matt Metcalfe, Medical Director who each completed the 13.1-mile course and together raised £1,880 (£2,73.75 with Gift Aid) to fund specialist equipment for the Urology department.
Joining them in their support to fund this equipment were Lisa Humpage, who took on the 6.9-mile half of the half – still an incredible achievement and Lisa raised an amazing £250 (£312.50 with Gift Aid).
We also had our first relay team in this year’s event.
Kay Faulkner, Jess Hockings and Shila Mistry raised a wonderful £830 (£982.50 with Gift Aid) between them for Urology too – AMAZING!!!
We will share more news about the specialist equipment as soon as we can!
Stroke unit and Talbot Butler ward
We’d also like to send a huge thank you to Sharon Corten for taking on the half marathon again for us, raising £185 (£210 with Gift Aid) for the Stroke wards on which she works.
And, a big thanks to Liz Smillie, Transformation and Efficiency Programme Manager, for running for Talbot Butler ward, raising a fantastic £225 (£268.75).
Team Theo for NGH Bereavement Midwives team
There was also Team Theo, of which Charity Fundraiser, Rob Powell was a member – running 4Theo in memory of Theo Crussell and the team of 7 raised £1,436 split equally between Action on Pre-eclampsia and to help kickstart the upcoming Daisy Suite Appeal for the maternity bereavement facilities at NGH (details of this appeal launching very soon).
That’s an awesome £840.62 for the appeal, including Gift Aid.
4Theo are huge supporters of us having raised a staggering £69,169 for charity, donating over £27,000 to us.

We also really appreciate the volunteers who accompanied our Charity Support Assistant, Emma Melville at our cheer zone at miles 5 and 11 on the day – this was by far the loudest and most encouraging of the zones, in our opinion although all were really brilliant!
It’s amazing how much this enthusiasm encourages runners on race day.
And of course, the wonderful team at KB Sports Therapy who were very busy giving mini-massages in return for a donation to us.
Our thanks to everyone for taking part and all the lovely people sponsoring them to help raise £4,888 to benefit patients and their families at NGH.
