Helen and Charlie’s lovely mum, Rebecca was looked after on the ward during her final few weeks before she sadly passed away in January 2019.
Helen took on a series of running challenges throughout that year to raise funds for Talbot Butler at NGH as she wanted to give something back following the compassionate care her mum received while being cared for by staff.
Part of a running group called Trail Monkey, in Jersey where she lives, Helen first completed the Trail Monkey Half Marathon on Jersey’s North Coast in March 2019 followed by the Trail Monkey Double Top Ultra Relay in May – a 20-mile race along the North Coast with an elevation gain that is higher than Snowdon.
“These are just all a warm up for the bigger ones coming up!” Helen told us back in June 2019.
Amongst other races she completed throughout some blistering summer heat, Helen ran the New Forest Marathon and it was great to welcome her as part of our first ever Northamptonshire Health Charity Northampton Half Marathon team in the September too.
Helen revealed to us yesterday one of her secrets to fuelling well for such long and intense runs is preparing plenty of jam or peanut butter sandwiches.

After setting an initial target of £250, which she reached pretty quickly, she smashed target after target eventually raising over £1,000 for the ward.
We can’t wait to share updates on how these funds are spent to benefit the patients and their families on the ward.
