Patient transport buggies

The Charity supports the indoor and outdoor buggies, managed by the Volunteers, that take patients around our Trust sites. Please fundraise or donate and help us continue to provide and improve this service - from maintaining and upgrading vehicles, to supplying blankets for patients and winter coats and hats for the volunteers who drive them.

Your donations will help us to continue this service

Over 7,000 patients each year are supported by the volunteer outdoor buggies across UHN. Help us help even more people by donating to Northamptonshire Health Charity today.

From getting between departments to taking a short outdoor trip to visit an inpatient relative, these buggies provide dignity, reassurance, and independence at a time when it is most needed.

How your donations help:

  • People feel more confident attending their appointments
  • Family and friends can visit loved ones without the worry of distance or fatigue
  • Anxiety around navigating busy hospital sites is reduced.
  • Volunteers can provide personalised, compassionate support
  • The service positively impacts attendance and helps reduce did‑not‑attend (DNA) rates

This appeal will help ensure that patients and visitors can continue to access support when moving around busy hospital sites. For many people, particularly those with reduced mobility, long distances between departments can feel overwhelming. The outdoor buggy service offers a simple, reassuring solution, helping people arrive at appointments on time and with greater ease.

Special messages for special moments

Volunteer Services at University Hospitals of Northamptonshire has launched a new volunteer-led service that allows families and friends to send personalised messages to patients online – which are then delivered in person on a greeting card by hospital volunteers.
