Help us create a colourful, welcoming space where children can continue to play, heal, and thrive.
Play is a vital part of childhood, even more so when a child is receiving treatment in hospital. It offers comfort, promotes recovery, and helps children express their feelings and cope with the challenges of being in a medical environment.
Why This Appeal Matters
Children of all ages and abilities are treated on the Disney and Paddington Wards, with some undergoing chemotherapy and others receiving care in the Paediatric Assessment Unit. However, the current outdoor play facilities are outdated and not accessible for all.
With your help, we’ll make sure that poorly children in Northamptonshire have the best possible environment to play and recover.
The plans for the new area will enhance accessibility to be inclusive for all ages and abilities. Having a bright, welcoming play area will be fantastic – a therapeutic outdoor space where all children and parents can spend time together, in all weathers."Sue Faulkner, Play Service Coordinator
The new outdoor play area will:
- Provide a Range of Activities to support both play and physiotherapy needs.
- Improve Accessibility so all children, regardless of their physical abilities, can enjoy the space.
- Create Inclusive Spaces for parents and carers with physical disabilities to interact and play with their children.
- Promote Well-being with a vibrant, interactive area that helps children feel reassured and continue an important aspect of their normal life during their hospital stay.

Appeal Purpose
We are aiming to raise £275,000 to transform the children’s outdoor play area at Northampton General Hospital. This important project will create a safe, engaging, and therapeutic space for young patients and their families, helping to improve wellbeing and recovery during hospital stays. If we do not reach our target, or if we raise more than needed, all donations will still be used to support the children’s play area project, related improvements to children’s services, or where the need is greatest. This ensures that every donation continues to benefit patients and their families in the most meaningful way.
Do you have a brilliant idea to help us reach our goal? Here are some ways you can get involved:
- Take part in a running event like a marathon, half marathon, or tough mudder.
- Organise a skydive or abseil challenge.
- Host a coffee morning, cake sale, or community event.
- Whatever your idea, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
