RITA lends a helping hand to elderly patients in Kettering

Head of Fundraising, Alison McCullloch with some of the RITA equipment

Thanks to a generous £66,000 donation from Florence Jessie Cleaver Trust, we have funded 10 x Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities (RITA) for Kettering General Hospital.

This specialist equipment will benefit 156 elderly patients across 7 geriatric wards at any one time, many of them with dementia.

Using RITA, staff can provide more patient-centred care that helps reduce agitation, isolation, depression, and delirium.

Patients engage in meaningful activities and entertainment, which also reduces anxiety and boredom and helps improve mood and well-being, which can speed up the recovery process.

Emergency Department Matron, Liz Meeks would like to pass on her personal thanks for this equipment as she recently had:
an elderly patient in ED who was very agitated and required 1:1 nursing.

So, she put a musical on via the RITA equipment and the patient sat in a chair and watched it and the patient ended up watching all of the musical and was merrily singing.

It was fantastic to see!”
We would like to say a huge thank you to all at the Florence Cleaver Trust for their generosity in helping to enhance patient care with this equipment.
