Hamish’s RED Jan raises £1,357 for Short Breaks

A BIG thank you to Hamish Baxter for raising an incredible £1,357 for the Children’s Short Break Centres by running every day in January!

Leah presented Hamish with three thank you cards the children at JGS had made to thank him for fundraising in aid of the centre.

Hamish Baxter’s’ sister, Daisy has cerebral palsy and has spent time at the John Greenwood Shipman Centre, which offers respite care.  Hamish explains how much Daisy really enjoys the time she spends at JGS, with it offering a change of scenery and company for her.  Naturally, it also offers a break from 24-hour care for their parents while being safe in the knowledge Daisy is being looked after and cared for by highly skilled and dedicated staff in a safe, welcoming environment.

Hamish very kindly decided he wanted to do something to give back to JGS for this wonderful care Daisy has received.  As Daisy will soon be spending time at the other Short Break Centre in the county, The Squirrels, he chose to raise funds in aid of both centres.  The task set was to commit to Running Every Day in January, wonderfully known as RED Jan.

Very early on Hamish smashed through the initial £200 target he’d set out to raise.  In the space of the following week a further deluge of generous donations pushed this well over £400!

…a bit of a mental battle having to run everyday but it is enjoyable…”

But it certainly didn’t stop there and even revising the target to £500 the donations kept on coming.  The final total raised including gift aid is an incredible £1,357!!  This means each centre receives £678 to spend on activities and initiatives that will enhance the care and experience for children staying for respite.

Hamish visited JGS to meet staff and service users and to present his donations.  They all thanked him, along with Leah who handed him some lovely thank you cards that the children had made to thank him for fundraising for them.

Thank you, Hamish, for being so thoughtful!

Hamish presented a cheque to Leah for the amount he raised from RED Jan.
